Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime Review

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a 2 player local coop experience that is out of this world (pun). It's over-the-top cutesy story telling style makes for quite a few laughs and the unique gameplay mechanics kept us coming back for more. The game takes place in far away galaxy ruled by Love that is now under attack by the forces of Anti-Love. The story was nothing too thrilling to us but the gameplay brought us the best couch coop experience we have had in a long time.

The game revolves around the two of you (or you and an AI space-dog companion) controlling a large round spaceship that resembles a sort of love-driven Deathstar. You will use this ship to explore large randomly generated areas, looking for space bunnies to rescure, and restore love to the universe. Each player is only able to control one of the 8 different battlesations at a time, these are: 1 Engine, 4 Turrets (One for each direction), 1 Shield, 1 Map Station, and 1 Super-Weapon Yamato Cannon. As you can expect when fighting masses of enemies you will need to switch between all of these stations very frequently. This became increasignly difficult (as well as extremely fun and hectic) as the game progressed due to the enemies not only growing in number but also in terms of diversity and creativity. New mechanics in each campaign such as space-oceans and asteroid belts kept every level fresh and full of new experiences. However, the real fun for us came with the Boss fight at the end of each campaign:

These towering enemies took us multiple tries to defeat every time as we tried to figure out their patterns and our frantic strategy. The feeling of accomplishment that came from finally finishing each fight was almost addicting as we found ourselves wanting to play each encounter again and again.

Overall we loved our time in this "Dangerous Spacetime" and think you will too. If you are looking for a fun-filled couch coop expereince, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is the way to go. Simple yet eye catching visuals, a solid soundtrack, and amazing gameplay make this indie game an experience no one should pass up on.
